[Shuttle]
You've arrived! You've been seen by a coolly efficient (what you hope is a) medical professional - after all they did give you a shot of something. Then you were handed a slew of things you're still trying to process - communication devices, a ring (which is also a key?), a piece of transparent film that's flashing information. And clothing, that was a thoughtful gesture. And then there was the explanation - You've been taken (isn't that a nice way of saying 'kidnapped') by that floating orb of light, you can't leave, but while you're here you get room and board. Is that really a fair trade? Oh, and to top everything off, you have a set of gem like stones set into your chest, that you can't remove.

Before you know it, you've moved with the crowd towards the shuttle and now that you are sitting down, it's now suddenly sinking in.

You are so very far from home.

[NOTE: Please note that the actual arrival process is different from the above scenario - please see the New Arrivals Page for a detailed explanation of the actual arrival process.]

~ ~

[Cafeteria]
You’re hungry, and though the smells coming from the cafeteria are strange, they are alluring. The grumble in your belly tells you it’s worth chancing.

~ ~

[Multipurpose Common Area]
You’re bored but haven’t quite worked up the courage to venture out into the greater parts of the station. The common area of the residential community seems like it might provide some distractions. And the view out the large windows lining one wall is simply stunning.

~ ~

[The Center Station Central Gardens]
In an environment where spatial expansion is finite, it seems extravagant to house a garden this big. What looks like giant trees at first glance, turn outo be the wire structures that rise up six stores before fanning out actually house various breeds of creeping vines. There are two levels of raised walkways that wind around the vine structures. The ground level also wraps lazily through various plots of vegetation. There is enough variety of plants here to keep anyone interested for hours.

~ ~

[Cemetery Ring]
If you’re in more for a somber atmosphere, the Cemetery Ring is open to everyone.

The first sign posted outside the door reads "We are the lights that shines brightest against the night." The sign below it simply says "All are welcome."

This wide corridor, that traverses the whole very top of the Inner Rings, is dimly lit, but pinpoints of light twinkle all over the wall. The wall juts out in an effort to create more surface area for memorials to those Owmi who have passed on to the next life since the Owmi started their nomadic journey.

The peacefulness of the room is inviting.

Cassian Andor | Rogue One

[personal profile] captain_by_the_book 2017-02-10 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
There was absolutely nothing redeeming about this situation, short of not being dead. And there was nothing redeeming about that when he was stuck in a place where not-being-dead served no discernible purpose. Carefully put, Captain Andor was displeased. Not as displeased as when it'd sunk in that he'd been brought here without his weapons, or as when he learned there was no way back, but then that level of displeased would be hard to top.

There was nothing to do but pace the corridors, and systematically learn the layout of the station, learn the people, the shifts. Learn how they moved, talked, breathed, how they thought.

This is where he could be found, wandering corridors few would care to wander, always discrete but showing a little bit too much interest in his surroundings, or just standing somewhere and watching the crowd all by himself - keenly, frustratingly aware that he would still stand out among the Owmi.

People warning was by far one of the more entertaining past time for him when he had been waiting for Qui-Gon as a padawan. It was then that he noticed the new face in the crowd, not drawing attention to himself as he watched the crowd.

Obi-wan approached him, sliding up alongside him easily with a small smile

"Finding the crowd entertaining?"

[personal profile] captain_by_the_book 2017-02-10 12:19 pm (UTC)(link)
There was that moment of tension, the thought of having drawn attention flashing through his mind before he reminded himself there was no war here, and no enemy to hide from.

Although he didn't smile back, his face was friendly enough, eyes calmly taking in the other man. "Of course. If enough people come together something interesting is bound to happen. Although personally, I find it more entertaining to watch how peaceful it is. At home you would find no such crowd that isn't patrolled by soldiers."

"The Owmi foster peace, fighting and aggression is not tolerated in their society. However I find that even the most peaceful of societies can have dark undercurrents for those who do not follow their rules." He'd found out a few dark things about the Owmi in his time there. However he did know that any of the people who had originally found out were now long gone.

"It sounds like you come from a dark time, friend." He raised a brow, nodding toward the peaceful crowd of happy people.

[personal profile] captain_by_the_book 2017-02-10 03:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"A very dark time." His eyes returned to the crowd, to families and content shoppers going about their daily lives. At home such scenes brought him no comfort, only frustration that they were wasting their lives on trivialities when they ought to fight for a higher cause.

"It is... nice to see a society which seems to have no need to pick up arms," he said, though he didn't bother to hide how dubious he felt about it, "and where the failure to do so might not be a failure to do what needs to be done."

[personal profile] how_uncivilized 2017-02-11 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't believe the Owmi see their peace and hatred of weapons as a failure, I believe them very capable of getting their hands dirty if they are pushed far enough. However it is one of the first societies I've seen that are true in practicing their mantra of tolerance and diplomacy of peaceful negotiations without holding knitted especially behind their backs." He commented, turning his haze from Cassian toward the group of jovial shoppers and families enjoying their afternoon.

"Many people have come here from other places with troubled times, I hope you might find a measure of peace here that you might not at home."

[personal profile] captain_by_the_book 2017-02-11 02:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hmm..." Cassian's brows knit, forehead creasing into a frown. Peace was the last thing he wanted, as time to think and rest would mean he could no longer hide from his demons, but that was hardly anything he could tell a stranger. "It will be a different experience, for sure. I'm eager to learn as much as I can about our hosts."

He turned to the man again. "My name is Cassian Andor, I'm a soldier with the Alliance to Restore the Republic." No point in holding back his real name or affiliation here. Hopefully.

"Nice to meet you Mr.Andor. I've heard whispering of your rebellion against the rising Empire. I'm Obi-wan Kenobi, master Jedi, now in hiding." He said, holding his hand out in greeting.

He knew that peace could be tedious for some. Quiet was not what many wanted after a lifetime of war. If he hadn't been trained to meditate and let go of the worst of the events that plagued him, he was certain he'd be much worse off than he was.
captain_by_the_book: (puppy eyes smolder)

[personal profile] captain_by_the_book 2017-02-11 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Cassian, meanwhile, had never learned to let go, only to bury his sins under new ones, piling mission upon mission with no time to rest or think. After twenty years of that, forced inactivity was a frankly terrifying prospect.

"A Jedi Master?" Surprise showed on his face, and he took a tiny step back in surprise before he caught himself. He looked down at the hand offered to him and shook it, his grip firm. "I did not realize..." He forced his face back to pleasant neutrality. "There seem to be many surprises laying in wait, hiding." He straightened his back. "The rebellion stands strong, every day more worlds rise up against the tyranny of the Empire. The people of our galaxy are tired of being in chains."
how_uncivilized: (this is my chair)

[personal profile] how_uncivilized 2017-02-11 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
"After the purge of the Jedi and the chosen one's fall to the dark side the few of us that survived have been in hiding since. There are not many of us, but I'm pleased to see that the galaxy is starting to find its own strength without relying on the JedI to fight back." He figured that anyone finding a Jedi in the time after the purge, let alone a master, would be taken aback. He gave Cassian a friendly smile, taking his hand back, always calm as he looked back out at the crowd.

"I commend you on your fight, Mr. Andor. However, here it...it is harder when the fight is far from us."
captain_by_the_book: (hmpf!)

[personal profile] captain_by_the_book 2017-02-11 07:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"Captain," he said abruptly, though his first choice had been not to share a rank. "It's Captain Andor." It might have been useful to be taken for a mere foot soldier, but being called Mister was quickly grating on him, coming from someone who claimed to be a Jedi, yet spoke of hiding.

"The fight may be far from us, but we still carry our convictions within us, and are driven by them." He looked at Kenobi from the corner of his eyes, gaze turning sharp. "Some... more than others, maybe. We have to remember that there can be no neutrality or indifference in a fight against absolute tyranny."
how_uncivilized: (oh no you think you're cute)

[personal profile] how_uncivilized 2017-02-11 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
"My apologies, Captain." Obi-wan corrected himself. He knew that Cassian very obviously found his mentioning of being in hiding to be seen as a weakness. There were bigger things at play than he was sure the man beside him knew. The jab rolled off of him like water from a duck, as he nodded at Cassian's words.

"All or nothing " Obi-wan surmised. "But there are more pieces moving on the field than you may realize, Captain. My friend Bail, is no stranger the how the Rebellion moves it's pieces in lieu of the Empire. Often in shadows to what the rest of the rebellion believes " It was enough information that he was sure that Cassian would be interested but not enough to give anything truly away.

Another new arrival, the bounty hunter Cad Bane was doing much the same thing as Cassian. Watching; checking; studying; exploring - and probably sticking out worse than Cassian with his obvious alien look. He was also not pleased by his missing weapons and equipment. It was as bad as being in prison again.

He noticed as he approached the man down a corridor, that Cassian appeared about as intent as Bane felt, even if trying to appear casual.

"Looking for something?" He remarked as he neared him.

Cassian took in the sight of the newcomer with some surprise, shifting his stance towards him slightly in his curiosity. A Duros. That was unexpected here among the human-like Ibere People, but not unwelcome.

"Not for anything in particular, no." He gestured at the people strolling along the promenade below them. "Merely people-watching. Oftentimes you learn more about a people by watching them than by speaking to them." They were less likely to put on a show when they didn't know they were performing, at least.

[personal profile] cadbane 2017-02-11 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
"True, true," he agreed.

Even if somebody knew him by reputation, Bane wasn't immediately recognisable without his usual outfit. That hat was a dead giveaway but without it he could be more incognito. Not that he wanted to be.

"Have you been here for very long?"
captain_by_the_book: (Default)

[personal profile] captain_by_the_book 2017-02-11 02:08 pm (UTC)(link)
That made one of them, Cassian would have been quite happy to be incognito, but the list of new arrivals being sent out had ruined that within minutes of his arrival. Nothing to do about it now.

"Not for long, no. Just a few days. I'm still trying to understand the nature of this place, and why I was brought here." He peered towards him again. "And you?"
cadbane: (Hatless gun)

[personal profile] cadbane 2017-02-11 02:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"About the same," he folded his slim arms across his chest and watched the people for a moment himself.

"It's all a bit of an unnecessary mystery. They should tell us why we're here and what we need to do to leave."

He still suspected this may be some sort of prison, despite what others have told him.

[personal profile] captain_by_the_book 2017-02-11 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Cassian's eyes returned to Bane, and lingered there. Interesting. He must have gotten the same welcome speech as Cassian, yet he too remained dubious why they were here.

He nodded slowly. "I agree. I would like to hear more about the reasons. The explanation I was given upon my arrival wasn't very satisfying." And Cassian made it a point never to believe people who claimed that they knew nothing about the mess they had maneuvered you into.
cadbane: (Prison garb)

[personal profile] cadbane 2017-02-12 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
"You got that right," he agreed about it all being unsatisfying and he also didn't really believe anyone was telling the truth. Maybe part of it was, but he thought they were hiding things. They knew, they just weren't telling.

"What's your name?"

[personal profile] captain_by_the_book 2017-02-16 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"Cassian Andor." No rank this time, no need to share more than necessary. "What is your name?"

There was a commotion below them, a shopkeeper getting into an argument with a customer, and Cassian found himself slightly amused. "How disturbing this may be, I'm glad some things remain the same all over the galaxy."

Humans were easy to spot on the station. Owmi looked humanoid, but they were still distinct enough that a human wandering seemingly aimlessly through the station stuck out like a sore thumb. And that got the young Jedi's attention right away.

Because that wasn't just aimless wandering.

Two years under Jedi tutelage, plus almost ten years a student of the harsh reality of life on Tatooine, he'd learned to pick out strange, yet patterned, behavior of others.

He trailed the new-comer for a while until it was clear that his target was aware of him stalking him.

At that point Anakin might as well give up the ruse.

"You can't leave," he said. "Learning about them- It won't do anything. If you steal a ship and try to get away, that Orakalla thing does something... something, and it pulls you right back to it." Anakin thought that was the thing this new person needed to know the most.

Oh, and, "Then the Owmi will be mad at you after that."

He turned around to regard the boy calmly, trying to learn more about him though this place made it hard. Another human, yes, but with everybody wearing the same clothes and native languages translated, it was much harder to pinpoint origins than back home. Clothes, in particular, could tell you a lot about a person. Too bad.

"That's what the Owmi said as well, that it isn't possible to leave," he replied mildly, "but I'm not trying to find an escape." Not yet. "A ship wouldn't get me anywhere without a map, and a proper understanding where I am, who these people are, and why they took me... or how."

He let his gaze wander, and finally return to the boy. "But it's always important to know your surroundings, even when you aren't trying to escape them. Knowing the escape routes can be a matter of life or death."

Leia was on her way to get some lunch when she noticed the new arrival. He had to be new, given that he was a human she hadn't seen here before. But he looked (and felt) grumpy enough that she normally would have just passed on by without bothering him.

But there was something else she felt about him, and that gave her pause. Other than his being human, there was nothing in particular that made him stand out, and yet... something- the Force, she thought- seemed to be drawing her gaze to him. As if there was something that it wanted her to notice or acknowledge about him.

Cassian felt the prickle of attentive eyes on him. He stopped and pretended to check something on his watch, while secretly looking around for the person observing him.

Oh.

He turned to the little girl, a human standing out among the Owmi just like he did. "Hello," he said, careful to make his voice a little friendlier than normal with strangers. "I don't think we have met before."

Leia blinked in surprise as the man greeted her. She hadn't realized she'd been staring. "Hi," she replied. "We probably haven't, since you must've just gotten here a little while ago. My name's Leia Organa."

She paused slightly before adding, "And I'm sorry if I was staring; I didn't mean to. It's just..." She paused again though this time in uncertainly of who to put what she was feeling into words. "You know that feeling that there's something important you're forgetting, and it's right there on the tip of your mind, but you can't remember what it is?"
